| The Many Uses of Promotional Merchandise |
Promotional items are perhaps your most versatile marketing tool. Are you getting the most out of them? If you haven't considered all of the following uses for your promotional merchandise, it's time you started.
Attracting New Customers.Sending free gifts like pens, magnets and key chains (all very cheap to buy in bulk from promotional-product suppliers) out with your marketing material helps to ensure that it gets opened and reviewed. Handing them out around town will also get people interested in your company. Potential customers will feel appreciative, and perhaps a little obligated, before they even set foot in your business or pick up the phone to call you.
Thanking Old Ones.Thanking customers for their business is always appreciated and often neglected. It will set you apart from your competitors as a company that takes care of its customers, that doesn't take them for granted. Promotional gifts like shirts, umbrellas and mugs are great ways to do this.
Starting New Business Relationships Right.A gift to christen a new partnership or a deal with a large client will start the relationship on the right foot. Indeed, many businesspeople, especially in foreign countries, expect such a gift. High-end promotional items like nice jackets or luxury fountain pens emblazoned with your company logo work perfectly in these situations.
Increasing the Volume of Orders. When customers order a certain number of products, throw in a free gift like a travel mug. Often times this will tempt buyers into increasing their orders. A customer ordering 250 units may bump his or her order up to 300 if there's a gift involved.
As Prizes in Contests.Raffles or drawings are a great way to increase interest in your business. Promotional items make perfect prizes for contests like this.
As Memorabilia from Events.Try giving away specialized merchandise at company picnics and holiday parties and at company sponsored community events. T-shirts and mugs that say "Merry Christmas from TechCorp" or "Save Mart Children's Fundraiser 2004" can be given to employees or participants as event memorabilia.
Thanking Employees. As any manager will tell you, doing little things around the office to keep employees happy is vital to running a smooth, productive operation. One way to keep up morale is to thank employees by giving them promotional items as gifts. Do this when certain quotas are made, when you have a particularly good month, or as part of an employee-of-the-month program. Or do it just because. You don't need a reason to show your employees that you care.
As Gifts for Promotions or Retirement.Nicer promotional items like watches or desk clocks, engraved with an employee's name, years of service and the occasion of the award, make great presents at retirement parties or when an employee is promoted.
Building Your Brand.A successful business must cement its company name in the minds of consumers. Familiarity leads to a good reputation, customer loyalty and higher sales. Promotional items are prime brand-building utensils. Bumper-stickers, pens, magnets and key chains, given away liberally, help to make your company a household name.
